A day on board learning how to do pre-flight checks, how things work, familiarising with on-board facilities and equipment, esp. ropes and shackles, resting, testing, cooking, washing up, the brutal difference between on-grid and off-grid philosophies including off-boat and on-boat interaction with the landside: buses, shops, pubs, libraries, etc. Choosing camp and how and why. Why and how to break camp. (£50)

Taking the boat away and back
Today you will be the skipper!
You will make all the calls!
I attend you as a mentor! (£50)
Planning and executing a round trip, nominally a
POGUEawayDAY lasts five hours or more or less.
Lay out an itinerary. Do the preflight checks.
Starting up .. Casting off .. Making away.
How boat is moved forward by the screw
Tieing up. Making away. Theory. Practice.
Forces acting on a boat moored or moving.
Observing lock strategies and tactics.
Mooring strategies, off-grid bank strategies
Make a cuppa rosie, bowla soup, snacking?
Moving when windy, theory and practice.
Moving solo as a 'supervised' skipper.
POGUE WEEK AWAY
Standalone, this option costs £150 on top of the M+G deposit. This is not a fee. It covers cost of fuel, wear and tear, food etc. out of the boat's
reserves. M+G on board visit must have been completed and the boat kitty topped up in advance.
£50 is discounted when a POGUEweekAWAY has been preceded by a POGUE HOME DAY. Client plans and purchases their provisions for five days from the boat kitty. This week away is the full Monty. Basically 5 POGUE AWAY DAYS, catering and dining on board breakfast lunch dinner tea supper and learning how to live and sleep in an enclosed space with another person. In cold weather it may include buying, grading and using charcoal and keeping the boat warm
