WHY do I do what I do? There's a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow. I found mine in 2011 and some months later it became mine. That rainbow also became the story! Lehmann Bros collapsed in 2008 and the financial world was in turmoil. My funeral euros were salted away in Ireland and there was no guarantee Irish banking would not collapse. It had already happened in Iceland and there would be no guarantees after that crisis. My rainy day purse might leak down a fissure opened up by Northern Rock. What to do? Money is a very precarious and untrustworthy commodity. A boat, built to live in, began to look like a sensible option rather than hoard worthless 'money'. I began to prepare a wish-list of the craft I might consider if I were looking for a floating man-cave, in which I could sleep, cook, write and work while I trawledthe ditches and drains of England.
