Scores of people, real and imagined, inhabit a dampish parallel dimension via social media, personal contact and accidental interface, flitting in and out of the water, on and off the land and popping up in the virtual pages of Muddy Brown Water unexpectedly and unannounced.
Some virtual entities become real people and morph in and out of my life perhaps while swapping locks at Kidderminster or going the same way awhile or just gliding by in the opposite direction at Tixall Wide.
In the photograph above, half of Warwick University's Engineering Department is on board my boat to show that Archimedes could be proven wrong. They had been innocently taking tea, under a dripping tree, when I herded them onboard to disprove a point re flotation, plimsoll lines and ballast.

Facebook was embraced by a fragmented canal 'community' at a time when, unless one had a land base, one had to go to a library to virtually engage with someone one who might become a reality just up the tow-path when you came back to the boat.
